In order to facilitate this there will be a series of overnight closures at this location with signed diversion routes in place. The programme for these is as follows:. The existing running lane on this slip road bridge will be maintained throughout the works with no restrictions to traffic flows. The following closures will be required to reinstate the centre reservation barrier and close the crossovers.

Traffic intending to travel this route will follow signage to be diverted back onto the M74 via Junction 6 at Hamilton. This closure will ensure the safety of our workforce and road users while work is underway.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking essential bridge refurbishment works on t he M74 at Junction 6. Phase One will be overnight-only — with enabling works commencing Monday 5 th July until Thursday 8 th July and will comprise of hard shoulder and slip road resurfacing, and gulley replacement works. The above works will involve closures of the A southbound to the M74 northbound slip road from Motherwell, and the A northbound to the M74 northbound slip road from Hamilton. Road users intending to join the M74 from either slip road during the above works will be diverted to M74 Junction 8 via the southbound carriageway of the M74, where road users will make use of the Canderside Toll roundabout to return onto the northbound carriageway of the M Phase Two will commence Saturday 11 th July until Friday 23 rd July on an overnight-only basis — , and will involve construction of two m long crossovers within the centre reserve, in order to facilitate contraflow arrangements for the main construction scheme.

During daytime — , the southbound carriageway will be fully open. On the northbound carriageway, the offside lane will remain closed however full capacity will be maintained by utilising the hard shoulder as a live running lane. All slip roads will also remain open. The main construction scheme is scheduled to commence on Friday 30 th July until Friday 8 th October This scheme will benefit around 65, vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the structure and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Signed diversion routes will be in operation throughout and we thank road users for their patience while this essential work is underway. The work will be split up into subphases to accommodate the following diversions:.

Diversion One: Traffic intending to use the slip road which runs beneath the M74 and which connects the A northbound to the M74 southbound will be diverted instead at the slip road split to Junction 5 at Raith via the northbound M From here, traffic will join the southbound contraflow at Raith Interchange where the diversion will end. Diversion Two: Traffic intending to use the southbound A to northbound M74 slip road will be diverted onto the southbound slip road at the slip road split.

Traffic will continue on the southbound M74 and use M74 Junction 8 to return onto the northbound carriageway. Diversion Three: Traffic intending to use the southbound A to southbound M74 slip road will be diverted onto the northbound slip road at the slip road split. Traffic will continue on the northbound M74 and use M74 Junction 5 Raith to return onto the M74 southbound carriageway.

Variable Message Signs VMS will be erected at strategic locations throughout the surrounding areas to provide road users the option of utilising alternative routes to their destinations. During peak travel hours it is anticipated that the works area will experience increased levels of traffic.

Road users are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and consider travelling via an alternative route. Amey will also operate a hour recovery service for the full duration of the works.

STGO haulage travelling from North to South shall be held at M74 Junction 5 Bothwell southbound services within a designated holding area until such time deemed appropriate to pass through the roadworks area. Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
